That Special Gift...
Ever wondered what to get a family that just had a newborn or will have a newborn soon? One of the things I've seen spread around my church is making scrapbooks. Sometime before my little nephew was born, I decided to start making a scrapbook for my brother and his wife.
My brother and his wife are first time parents. I know with the first baby, the parents are just trying to figure things out and won't necessarily have a lot of time for pictures and scrapbooking. My sister in law doesn't really seem the scrapbooking type anyways.
So what I did was make a scrapbook for them without the pictures in it. I followed a "first" theme but you can do anything you want. The basic idea is to do all the hard work for the new parents so all they have to do is print up their favorite pictures and paste them into the book. Here are some examples of the pages I made:
- First Born - weight, height, time and date of birth
- First Smile
- First Room
- First Bath
- First Haircut
- First Crawl
- First Steps
- First Vacation
- First Halloween
- First Christmas
- First Baseball game
- First Birthday
I think my brother and his wife were pleasantly surprised. Even though they wouldn't necessarily sit down and make their own scrapbook, it was nice to have one premade they could just stick pictures into.
I like this gift for a family expecting a new addition because it's personal and very thoughtful. If you have a lot of time to put into it, start early and get creative! There are endless possibilities! I'm starting to think of ideas for some babies due early next year.

Thank you, Shawna! I got the idea from women at my church but I love it! Instant scrapbooks are great for people who don't necessarily like to scrapbook, like yourself! :)

This is a great idea. I don't like scrapbooking, but my mom gave me an "instant scapbook" for each of my kids...just like what you're saying. All I had to do was add the pictures. It was so easy and not as time consuming as traditional scrapbooking!
